PENALTY BOX

Spring time at Edwards always brings about many changes.  Daylight savings, weather, flip-flops instead of shoes, and HOCKEY.  I like to save the hockey unit until later in the year when I know that I have ingrained our safety rules into the kids.  Here we are at that time.  This week we started floor hockey and are having a great time.  1st through 5th grade classes are working on skills like dribbling, passing, shots on goal and face-offs before we start actual games.  Along the way we play mini games that emphasize each skill.  So far this week I have only had to give two penalty's for high sticking, that might be a record low.  Check with your kids as the weeks pass by and see what new skills they have learned.  Maybe check out a hockey game on TV and see if they recognize any of the same skills that they now have.

COMING SOON

Over the next month there will be several activities in PE that would be great games for kids to play over the summer.  As these games roll out in class I will post instructions on how to make and play some of them on your own.  I know that I enjoy making some of my own games/equipment and maybe you will too.  This will be an opportunity for you and your child/children to make something together and then use it to stay active.  Please make sure that if you are a student and you are making these on your own that you do not use saws and other sharp objects without adult supervision, I hate to see kids in class with casts on.

I hope that one of these will come in handy for you and your family as the weather changes for the better and we are able to get outside and play.
